GypsyHerbs focuses on ancient herbal knowledge. Although some of the information and sources on this site are recent, most of the gathered sources are over a century old.
I am fond of the old text books with beautiful plate drawings. Many of these will be available in the book section so you too can share in the beauty of ancient herbal knowledge by accessing digital copies. I have a hope of preserving information from times that are long past, when we didn’t sit within our sterile environment and interact with others by pressing a button.
It simply astounds me how much information the ancient world had. Today we base so many modern day medicines on this old herbal knowledge – from the every day things like Asprin which is based on Willow to some of the most powerful heart medications, such as Digitalis which is extracted from Foxglove.
Most of the medicinal information on this site is pre 1900s. So if you are looking for the most up to date on herbal research, then you may want to try another resource. For a conservative approach to the subject, I would suggest NCCAM – the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. This is government funded scientific research to determine the usefulness of various alternative medicines.
I have been learning about this sort of stuff since I was old enough to write down information from library books so I would have it for later. My formal education includes basic classes in pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, herbalism, and holistic and alternative medicine.
I am not medically qualified to offer medical advice and do not condone forsaking modern medicine when it should be utilized. This website is mainly to share my love of this subject and the information I have gathered over the years. It is intended for reference and education, not for medical advice.

Old knowledge is often dismissed as outdated, however the truth is we base our existing knowledge on that of our elders. Natural remedies are well tested through trial an error and the reishi (ganoderma mushroom) is one of those natural sources we should harness.
